CAL, History/Social Science Department
Dr. Nøkkentved, aka Dr. Nok, was a full-time member of the History/Social Science Team from 1989-2013, during which time he wrote curricula for a number of courses including: European History, International Relations, sections of the new World Studies fall electives, and the World in the Twentieth Century. Dr. Nøkkentved served as CAL for the History/Social Science team during the 2008-09 through the 2011-12 school years. He served on numerous committees, Collegial Support Teams, and mentored new teachers. He returned during the 2013-14 spring term to teach two classes.
Dr. Nøkkentved’s deep knowledge of history and integrated approach to teaching and learning have inspired his students and his colleagues. For many years he mentored students who were doing Independent Study and SIR projects, wrote and taught intersessions, sponsored clubs, chaperoned dances, and attended plays and concerts. Dr. Nøkkentved continues to stay connected to IMSA by attending the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend and by volunteering weekly, along with Marti Guarin, as an IMSA archivist. It is because of this volunteer work that IMSA has been able to identify, digitize, and create the DigitalCommons Archives and Special Collections, which currently includes the Oral History Project, Course Catalogs, and the IMSAloquium abstract booklets.
