Dr. Nashwa Mekky
Chief People, Equity, and Culture Officer
With over 25 years of experience in public education, Dr. Nashwa Mekky brings a wealth of expertise in human capital management, instructional leadership and diversity, equity, and inclusion to IMSA. Her work focuses on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that prioritizes recruiting a pipeline of diverse and exceptional candidates while promoting equity and belonging for all staff and students. Dr. Mekky is endorsed as a Professional Human Capital Leader in Education (pHCLE). She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Illinois University, where her research explored the impact of implicit bias on student achievement. She holds additional degrees, including a Chief School Business Official (CSBO) certification from Northern Illinois University, an M.A. in Instructional Leadership from Roosevelt University, an M.S. in Elementary Reading & Literacy from Walden University, and a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Minor in Anthropology from Northeastern Illinois University.
Dr. Mekky is a dedicated advocate for equitable practices, contributing to state-level initiatives to improve human capital leadership and equity in education. Her commitment to continuous learning and her collaborative leadership style play a critical role in IMSA’s mission to build an engaged, high-performing, and inclusive community.
