Your rights under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act):
While Attending IMSA:
- Both parents and students have access to the student’s records and may request transcripts.
- All requests for access/documents must be in writing with signature release from either parent or student.
- IMSA may release general directory information on students without their written consent. (See parent student handbook for definition of directory information and specific items).
- Parents and students have the right to request, in writing, that directory information items be withheld from general release. This request would stay in effect until rescinded in writing, by the parent or student.
- Educational institutions into which the student intends to enroll may receive academic information without written consent from the parent or student.
- IMSA personnel or contractors may access information for legitimate educational purposes.
After Leaving IMSA:
- Once a student has left/graduated from IMSA, only the student may grant access to records and order transcripts.
- All requests for access/documents must be in writing with signature release from the student.
- IMSA may release general directory information on students without their written consent. (See parent student handbook for definition of directory information and specific items).
- Students have the right to request, in writing, that directory information items be withheld from release. This request will be in effect until rescinded in writing, by the student.
