Curiosity in Action

At IMSA, curiosity has always been central to learning experiences. It drives individuals to ask more meaningful questions. It also allows them to challenge assumptions, or imagine new solutions to complex problems. But curiosity also needs support, and this is where the IMSA Fund plays an important role. Through donor generosity, we help turn curiosity into a real opportunity for students and faculty to invest in their ideas.

That was the idea behind the Curiosity Corridor program.

Created as part of IMSA’s broader vision for a Living Learning Community, the Curiosity Corridor is designed to encourage exploration of new ideas and creative discovery. This year, Curiosity Corridor micro-grants were awarded to students to support exploration of scientific ideas, conducting original research, or developing a deeper understanding of a topic that genuinely sparks their curiosity. Each student who received a micro grant is asked to share their findings with the IMSA community, to encourage knowledge sharing and to spark even more curiosity among their peers.

For students, the grants helped expand access to meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom. Some received support for additional exploration into computational thinking, neuroscience, medicine, and mathematics. Others pursued hands-on experiences such as shadowing professionals in their work environments, coding independent tech projects, and programming different uses for medical technology.

Together, these projects show how access can transform curiosity into action. A strong question becomes a driver of knowledge. An academic interest becomes a research experience. A classroom idea becomes a new way for students to change the world.

The Curiosity Corridor Micro-Grants are a reminder that while talent and curiosity are already present in our community, the IMSA Fund facilitates the opportunity students need to take the next step.
